How Can I Cancel A Magic Jack # On A New Magic Jack Another Person Has Used

Bought a new MJ and it had been previously used with a number on it. Got this from Target in the USA. How do I get that old number out of this so I can use it for myself. Or do I have to return it to Target. I live in Canada
