Why Can't I Access The Hard Drive On The Lap Top?
The Lacie 250GB external hard drive is not accessible on my Inspiron Dell which has Vista.

Sounds like your computer is not communicating with your external hard drive.
It may be that your hard drive is faulty, but that is not definite.
Does your external hard drive appear when you click start - computer and look at the hard drives installed?
Is the connecting cable OK? Try a different one.
Might be worth doing a system restore to a date before the problem occurred to see if that fixes it or try Plug it into another computer
