Rooting means gaing root user privilage and has nothing to do with changing ROMs other than you have to be rooted to do it so Im a little unclear to what you are asking.

There is an upgrade for the Thrill/3d Optimus that brings it up to 4.0 (ice cream sandwich) but if you upgrade and you have rooted the phone, you will have to re-root it.

If you want jellybean you will have to download a custom ROM like Cyanogenmod version 10. Its based off of jellybean but you also have to have a custom restore installed too. CWM restore to be exact.

(If you are not accustomed to modding androids then please do not pursue this)

(don't get me wrong im all for learning all im saying is , learn on a piece of junk phone that you dont use because its not a good feeling to have a phone thats busted and knowing that its only busted because you f**ked with it once too often. I got a drawerful, i know.)
