How Do You Safely Remove A Usb Device Such As A Hard Drive?

i have one of these devices and i can't find anywhere in the web interface to safely unmount a USB device such as a hard disk. as we have seen with windows and linux it is not best practise for the long term health of hard drives for them to be simply unplugged but i can't find anywhere to unmount them. so far i have been using the umount command from the command line but this requires that i log into the shell each time i wish to remove a disk, not the most convenient. i would think that i'm missing something obvious such as holding a button on the front but i can't find any mention of it in the user manual nor any of the web forums. Can somebody, anybody please give me an answer to this; it's driving me nuts! TIA, Carl.

Browse the computer, you should get a list of connected devices.

Right click on the drive you want & unmount will be one of the options.

This works under Debian, Ubuntu, Mint and other Debian derivitives.

I have found no problems doing it with the power off.
