Cutting Insulation From Top Of A Kitchenaid Dishwasher

We are installing a KA dishwasher and it says to cut around the preforations of the insulation on the top of the dishwasher. Is this right? Why?

I believe you only cut the top of the insulation off if you need to lower the height of the dishwasher, I wondered that same thing myself but left it alone since the height was not a problem.
