Kfcs22evms Refrigerator's Interior Water Dispenser Is Getting Slower And Slower.

My KFCS22EVMS refrigerator's interior water dispensor seems to be getting slower and slower in dispensing water. Any ideas as to what might be causing this and do I need to have a repairman out? It is about nine months old.

I FINALLY HAVE THE ANSWER, AND IT'S NOT A CLOGGED FILTER! Sorry for the all-caps shouting, but I'm pretty geeked about having found a soluton to this ongoing connundrum! (Life must be pretty OK if a slow water filter fix evokes such emotion from me.) Anyway, after having no success from installing a brand new filter in my Kitchenaid fridge, I tested a theory. See, the original filter was, as I understand, a Whirlpool part. After closely comparing/measuring the original filter (which worked fine) with the slow moving PUR filter that I bought at Home Depot, I concluded that the PUR replacement filter (probably like other currently available replacements) are ever so slightly shorter in a critical location that, when twisted into place, is supposed to push in two "buttons" on the part of the fridge that the filter screws into. I presume that the new filters are simply made from different tooling (i.e. plastic mold) and the tooling is imperfect (we're talking about an approx. 1 mm that makes a HUGE difference). In fairness to other posters (here and on other sites) who have suggested that a clogged filter is the cause, that certainly could be the case for some people. There are many out there, however, who have replaced expensive filters to no avail.

Without further ado (drum roll please), here is the fix:

Simply put a thin rubber washer over the male protrusion on the new filter (i.e. the "outy" belly button looking thing that has a black o-ring on it) to essentially "fill the gap" between the little "curved ramp" looking things and allow the two water flow buttons on the fridge to be fully pushed in as designed. Note: The perfect outer and inner diamater rubber washer can be obtained by buying a standard sink aerator cartridge at your local hardware store. (That's the part of your bathroom faucet that the water comes out of, which you can just unscrew with your hand.) Heck, you could even just pull one out of your sink in about 15 seconds to try it out. I was able to buy just the washer and metal screen in a little kit, and I just discarded the screen. Stuck the washer on my filer, and *BINGO-BANGO*, excellent water flow! Another note: Some rubber washers I saw were thicker than others. I went with a thin one and it worked. I can't speak to whether a thicker washer would work.

The water filter is at the end of its life and must be replaced.

The primary symptom of a clogged water filter is a reduced flow.

This is easily done yourself in less than 2 minutes. No service call is necessary.
