Kenwood Kdc-352u
my kenwood kdc-352u has a problem. the screen just flashes "protect" and wont let me do anything. i think someone tried to steal it but i misplaced my owners manual.

First, you will want to make sure that ALL connections, from the back of the unit all the way to the speaker connections (and everything in between), are wired correctly and have proper protection/insulation. Once you are are sure of this, then you will need to reset the unit (remove faceplate and along the bottom edge, slightly to the left of center is a small button that you can press and hold using a ballpoint pen or similar). Once unit is reset, give it another shot. If you are still having issues, then I regret to say that it will need to be serviced. Good luck!

The Protect display happens due to two reasons. (1) wiring is short and (2) unit is broken.
Apply this procedure after verifying the units wiring. Failure to correct any wiring problem
Remove all DC power (Remove harness) from the unit.
Simultaneously press and hold the MENU and the UP button and apply the power (insert the harness). “DC ERR” will be displayed. If “Chk wiring or Protect" message reappear, retry steps again
Press the UP arrow. If "DC ERR1" is displayed, press and hold the UP arrow to display DC1 OK.
Now press the DOWN arrow. If DC ERR2 is displayed, press and hold the DOWN arrow to display DC2 OK.
Remove the harness. Remove the faceplate. Connect the harness. Press the reset button (in the tiny hole). Reinstall the faceplate and power on. Operation should be restored
If “Chk wiring or Protect…” message reoccurs, re-inspect the external wiring and correct any error and attempt procedure again. If it doesn't work again, the unit is broken.
