Uneven Load

When the machine stops trying to spin because of an uneven load and then flashes "ue" manual says to pause and open the door and redistribute the load. Problem is that once I've done this the machine has turned off and does not resume at the point it stopped at. Is there any way to get the machine to just go into a spin cycle without having to run a wash program?? Or do I have to hover by the machine at spin times so I catch the "ue" immediately so it will work (untenable!).
