Troubleshoot Auger Cable

Motor runs fine. Auger won't turn. Not shear bolts. Not belt. What else could it be but the cable? Could it be anything else? If it is the cable, please tell me all about it!

If the shear bolts and the belt are not the problem, then the auger cable is likely the cause of the problem. The auger cable is responsible for engaging the auger assembly, which is the part of the snowblower that throws the snow. If the auger cable is broken or not properly adjusted, the auger will not turn.

Here are some symptoms of a broken or improperly adjusted auger cable:

The auger will not turn at all.

The auger will turn slowly or erratically.

The auger will make a grinding noise.

To check the auger cable, you will need to remove the auger housing. Once the auger housing is removed, you will be able to see the auger cable. Inspect the cable for damage. If the cable is broken, it will need to be replaced. If the cable is not damaged, you will need to adjust the cable tension.

To adjust the auger cable tension, you will need to locate the auger cable adjustment nut. The auger cable adjustment nut is usually located on the side of the auger housing. Turn the auger cable adjustment nut until the cable has the proper amount of tension. The proper amount of tension is when the cable is taut but not too tight.

If you are not comfortable replacing or adjusting the auger cable yourself, you can call a repairman to do it for you.

Here are some additional things that you can check:

Make sure that the auger assembly is properly assembled.

Make sure that the auger bearings are not seized.

Make sure that the auger gearbox is not damaged.

If you have checked all of these things and the auger still will not turn, then you may need to take your snowblower to a repair shop.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
