Someone has hacked into your e-mail account. You simply need to change your password. If it happens again you should take your computer to have it looked at. You could have a keystroke memory program on your computer that was put there by a virus.

Before you do anything you need to verify that these emails actually did come from your account.

Log into the account and check the sent mail folder.  Do you see the emails?  If someone hacked into your accoun then they may or may not erase the sent mail.

If you do not see anything in sent mail that you cannot recognise I would suggest that YOU WERE NOT HACKED.

It is a trivial matter to spoof a return email address on an email.  This is likely what happened.

If you leave your email on public forums ANYWHERE you are subject to having that email collected by spambots.

I recently got a ton of bad email retrun notifications from accounts all over the world.  I never sent anything to any of these accounts.  what had happened was that my email address got collected from a tech forum and used as a fake return address by a spammer.

Fortunately I have a system for managing this.  I own a number of my own Internet domains.  I have control over the email received by these domains and have it all forwarded to a common account that I collect it from.  Because of this I can use a "catch-all" system that collects any and all emails and send them to me.

What I do is use configure my emails with the name of each web site so that I know where an address was collected from.   So for example a gmail account would be "[email protected]".

When I get spam returns I look at the email headers and can see who it was sent back to and immediately know where it got leaked.

This only works if you own a full domain name.

What you can do though is list your email as "gmail AT domain.com" so people know how to contact you.  They must replace AT with @ to email you (the first time) but spambots cannot harvest your email that way.

Obviously what crazyreadhead87 stated should be kept in mind, but my bet would be you are not hacked, just harvested.
