Brushroll

My brushroll won't work on my Hoover. It was working fine on my kitchen floor but when I took it to do my living room carpet it stopped working. I took the bottom apart and there is nothing caught in the roller and the motor is still working and the belt is not broken. The green light doesn't come on when the handle is pulled back to vacuuming mode. Can you help me? I have had this vacuum cleaner less than a year.
