Depends on what sort of recovery you require. Windows has recovery and HP has recovery.
To do a ground up recovery of the laptop use the recovery CD that came with it. You can request another one from HP but I know many people who have had a ton of issues getting them from HP.
This option will ERASE everything on the laptop and revert it back to the sate it was at when it first came out of the box.
The other option is a Windows recovery. Note System Restore does not affect personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos. You can only restore files that you have deleted if you have made backups of those files.
Microsoft has a document here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/back-up-your-windows-pc-87a81f8a-78fa-456e-b521-ac0560e32338 that explains the process with included pictures.
Basically, click Start->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore
From there select "Restore my computer from a previous time". Click Next
Select a date BEFORE your corruption or file deletion. Click Next.
The restore can be undone if needed.
