The Usb Ports On The Left Side Of The Computer Aren't Active

My model is a HP Elitebook 8460p and I run Windows 7 64-bit professional. One random day, the two USB 2.0 on the left side of my laptop stopped working for no reason. The one USB 3.0 on the right side still works.

FAILED SOLUTIONS!! I tried:

I tried disabling/uninstalling/installing drivers from the the Device Manager menu. This did not help and even killed my last USB 3.0 port.
Installing drivers from the HP Driver support website did restore my USB 3.0 port to working order, but the driver came with bloatware, a program called viewspan. Viewspan is a redundant program which performs the same function as rightclick on desktop>view resolution but it adds a icon to your icon tray.
Run>msconfig>enable everything>restart. Did not help at all.
Switching users does not help.
I had no restore points to system restore to.
I downloaded diagnostic tools from the HP driver website but I had no idea where they installed to so I couldn't even run them.

THE WORKING SOLUTION!:

What worked was I updated my BIOS by downloading the HP Notebook System BIOS Update program from the HP Driver website. After the update, all the usb ports worked again.
