Blade Won't Spin

I just bought this and followed the instructions to use it, the motor turns but doesn't spin the blades... It's like the bottom with the square nut isn't long enough...

Is it possible the blades are inserted upside down. Go to page 5 of the manual  where it states push the blade straight down until it clicks into place, that could be the problem.
