The answer is yes, you do attach both the intake and the exhaust hoses for cooling and heating to a window kit. However, when dehumidifying, you attach the intake hose and place it in the area (room) you are dehumidifying. In this situation, the exhaust hose can be attached or not. I keep my exhaust hose attached to get the warm DRY air into the room to help dehumidify. Hope this helps.
