I've had the exact same problem with mine and my stove is less than three years old. I personally think it is a defect and hopefully more people will complain to them. I called and insisted on a new part and they sent it to me after they suggested that I pay a service person to come out and diagnois the problem. Really?? Mine was wearing off on the right side and my dad has speculated that perhaps due to the oven vent being there, that is why it might be coming off. I had an older model of the stove and that part of the stove had glass across the back and therefore, it would be impossible for that to happen.
