Precise Fill And Ice Maker Problems

I have a GE PGSS5PJSC SS and my precise fill no longer works. It will dispense water, but will not reflect the amount dispensed on the display. It did work at one time but quit some time ago. Now, my ice maker does not work, although I have troubled shooter with the manual and no of the problems listed there seem to be the problem. I have found a couple of vague answers online that seem to indicate that the inoperable status of the precise fill may be causing the ice maker problem as the make may not know how much water to put in the maker as the precise fill cannot quantify the amount of water? Any thoughts?
