At Times The Wash Cycle Seems To Get Stuck, It Does Not Advance To Rinse.

For example, the machine went through 4 wash cycles, i.e. fill wash empty, and did not automatically advance to risse without pausing and manually forcing the rinse cycle.  What could be the problem?
