My2595lmt - Incorrect Mileage- No Recalculating.
My Nuvi will give a 16 mi. distance to my destination - mileage actually 60 mi. Same in Km. When making a wrong turn do not get the recalculating command.

Two things you should consider:
- if you've done a firmware update you should also do a hard reset of the unit. Questionable routing can often be caused by not doing a reset after installing a software update.
- you say you have the Nuvi set to calculate routes using the shortest route, which I assume is the Shortest Distance setting, yet you have also set it to avoid highways. It may be that these settings can cause some seemingly weird routing as it may be very difficult for the device to find a route that avoids any kind of highway (interstate, state route, etc.) while still giving you the shortest distance. You may want to experiment a bit and although I don't know your particular circumstance, I'd start with turning off the Highway avoidance, and see if that gives you a better route.
