I have purchased a mirco sd card is the an adaptor that will take the mirco sd card for the 172c

According to Cnet, Garmin GPSMAP 172C does not have an SD Card Reader. It has only a Garmin Data Card but I believe that this is not compatible with MicroSD type of memory card. You can read the full specifications of this product here.
