Seat Belt Warning Beep Does Not Always Come On When Starting Car.

I have a 2010 GMC terrain with just over 32000 miles on it. When I start the car after it has sat for a short period of time, with my seat belt off it does not make the warning beep. But if I drive the car with the set belt off it beeps as normal. If the car sits for a while it makes the warning beep when I start the car. Is there any way to reset it, GMC has been no help. Please help me
