Two possibilities. The first is that your thermostat is stuck open and not working correctly. It needs to stay closed until the car reaches the correct operating temperature in order for you to have heat in the car.

The second possibility is the heater core is plugged up with sediment. Check the hoses that go in and out of the core. They should both be hot when the car is warmed up. If one is not hot, then it is plugged up.

It's much cheaper and easier to replace the thermostat. It's located on top of the engine block. Follow the upper radiator hose to the block and you will see the thermostat housing at the end of the hose. Remove the housing (two bolts) and replace the thermostat. Be sure the car is cool before attempting to replace it and drain the radiator coolant level down to below the thermostat level before unbolting the housing.

The heater core isn't hard to do, but getting to it can be a real pain. You have to remove it from under the passenger side dash. You may have to remove the glove box and a few other things just to get to it. You will have to drain the radiator down to below the core level so you can remove the hoses attached to it. Again, only do this when the car is cool.
