I have the error code ef I understand it could be the control board but the fan starts to make a loud sound like the motors got something in it right before the code comes on. Ive been unplugging it and letting it thaw out for awhile and that usually fixes the problem temporarily. Is it the evaporator fan? I really dont want to replace 3-4 parts trying to fix it

Hi mrongey – Thank you for your post! Error code EF commonly refers to an evaporator fan error. Either the evaporator fan is not spinning fast enough or not at all. It is possible that there is something contacting the fan blade, which this will trigger the error code as well. According to the model number posted above, your unit is a side by side refrigerator, therefore more than likely water from the icemaker fill tube is running down the back wall and freezing on to the fan shroud causing the noise you are hearing. In this regard, I would suggest contacting an Authorized Service Technician that will be able to assist you in the diagnosis of your appliance.
