Electrical Problems With Ford Escape

I'm living on Bolivia, I just buy a 2010 Ford Escape XLT and The main problems are: Battery is loosing power fast Battery is no charging I found a red wire, conected to the pos terminal straight to some light module floating under the carpet on the back. My electriccian says that I need a new alternator, i want to know if is "just that". Could you help me???
