DATA ERR. These messages indicate improper operation of the vehicle

network communication between electronic modules.

  • Fuel Computer
  • Oil life
  • Charging system
  • Door sensor
  • Liftgate sensor
  • Exterior lamps
  • Traction control
  • Washer fluid
  • Brake Fluid
  • Compass
  • Outside temperature

Contact your dealer as soon as possible if these messages occur on a regular basis. Try this: if you are certain that it is not the drivers door switch, it is one of the liftgate ajar switches that seized up from a lack of lubrication. I suggest purchasing a can of PB blaster from your local autoparts store and liberally spraying all the door and liftgate latches (as the ajar switches are located inside each latch) liberally with PBblaster and slamming each door about 10-15X and respray the latches again. Then operate the doors and liftgate again a few more times and the switches should free up. If the ajar and dome lamps don't go off the precedure should be repaeted a few more times but eventually the will free up and operate properly. It all depends how long the switches have gone without lubrication as to how long and how many attempts of slamming the doors will take to free the switch, but eventually they do free up. This is a fairly common issue with most vehicles when the latches dont get regular lubrication. Please ensure you use PBblaster and not WD40, WD is a lubricant and PB is a penetrant. PB WILL free up the switches and WD likely will not.
