Limp Mode

My Expedition, has over heated, gone into ,"Limp Mode" 4 times sents I bought it 2yrs ago. It had 200000 miles on it. Every time I had to buy a coil , number one and number two cylinders. Even after replacing coil, it took a long time, 100 miles plus or minus, of driving. All the sudden.........it runs smooth. Help

Can overheating cause limp mode?

overheating: many cars will activate limp mode when overheating is detected. the engine's temperature may spike for a number of reasons, usually due to problems with the cooling system. the car will shut off fuel to some cylinders, allowing fresh air to enter the engine and help cool it down.
