How Do I Stop Getting Automatically Generated 'friend Requests'?

Unfortunately, there is no good way to stop all friending activity. Facebook now makes you offer the "Add Friend" option to all Friends of Friends, but that is as tight a restriction as you can make. Evidentally, blocking auto-generated friend requests is viewed as antithesis of social networking.
It is possible to add people to a "Block List" under the Privacy settings, but obviously, the damage would have already been done.
