How Does Facebook Know If I Sent A Friends Request To Someone I Do Not Know.
what if it was sent to wrong person

Technically, they wouldn't. However, if you either send it to someone you don't know OR you send it to someone who either doesn't recognize you or doesn't want to be your friend, s/he might indicate not knowing you and/or block you. Also, if you send invites and the person doesn't respond for a while, FB thinks they don't know you. Sometimes they will block you from sending requests and messages to others for a week.
