Is There A Way To Trace Someone Who Sent A Death Threat To My Mother Using My Ac

someone went thru my friends list and sent a death threat and explicit message to my close friend using my acct. i have a feeling it was my ex. we are currently embattled in a legal situation involving cps and i need to see if the person or IP address can be traced. ive been advised by my lawyer to report this to the police
