How To Remove Links To Content That Is No Longer Available.

The links show on my timeline. Clicking the edit button produces the error 'this content is no longer available'. The contain be hidden or deleted. Following the link is fruitless as it has been deleted at the source. How can I remove these items. They are broken, public, and appear to be there forever. I've cleared FB and browser caches. Nothing works. I've spent close to a week trying to resolve this.
