How Do I Completely Delete This Damned Facebook Account?

I want totally out of Facebook, but the damned program thwarts my every attempt. Can someone please help me get out of this connective Hell?

Go to:

Account>Account Settings> go Down you will see 'Deactivate account'

this should help.
