Is A Passport Needed For A Flight From Bristol To Edinburgh?

I am about to book a flight for four people to fly at the beginning of October. I have a current passport, but two of my friends do not. Will they need a passport, or can a form of photo I.D. be sufficient? If so, what forms of photo I.D. are acceptable at check-in?
