If it overheats in traffic, but not on open road driving, check cooling fan circuit. If it overheats during driving, you may have a bad water pump. On most cars, you can see some flow by removing the radiator cap (only when cold). Start the engine and bring it to medium revs. You should see a small amount of coolant flow past the radiator filler neck since the bypass pipe will let some coolant flow even when the thermostat is closed. If you want to be sure, remove the thermostat again and it should flow strongly past the filler neck. The other possibility is a blown head gasket. Check the oil to make sure it isn't milky coloured. Smell the end of the exhaust pipe while running and make sure you don't smell coolant. Hope this helps. Please flag it as helpful if it was. Thanks
