Trailer Harness Problem

2004 ram 1500 I am suddenly getting power to the purple wire (center pin on trailer plug) when I press the brakes. This location is to turn off the surge brakes on the trailer so you can back up and should only have power when in revers. I checked wires and could not find any problems could it be in the module. The backup lights do not go on when the brakes are pressed
