Blower Motor Direction Switches On Its Own

I bought a 1998 Dodge Durango SLT and the ac has a mind of its own. I turn the blower motor on and the vents are blowing in my face while I'm stopped, as soon as I accelerate, (with the direction switch on the head vent) it switches to the defroster on its own... Why?
