No Sound Most Of The Time

My N4010 Inspiron has a red X or the icon and yet when I click on the icon and run the detecting test it says there is nothing wrong with the sound. Once in a while the sound will work but mostly not at all.

After uninstalling the Realtek driver if you reboot the system Windows should ideally reinstall the generic audio driver. If you check in Device Manager under Sound, video and game controller,do you see anything listed with a yellow exclamation mark or triangle ? or in Device Manager do you see Other Devices with Audio Controller listed?

If you see either of the above, try reinstalling the Realtek driver using the link below :

www.dell.com/.../inspiron-14r

If the sound would not come run the dell diagnostic audio test which tells you is there any hardware failure or not.

Thanks

1. Did you check if you’ve any yellow exclamation mark in front of Sound, Video and Game Controllers under Device Manager?

I would suggest you to try the steps provided below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Try to run the built-in troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Open the Playing Audio troubleshooter: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Playing-Audio-troubleshooter

Method 2: If the issue persists then try to update drivers for your Sound Card from manufacturer’s website.
Install sound driver from the link below:

Thanks
