The Water Will Not Drain And The Cycle Will Stop Halfway Through.

Everytime I run a cycle it will run halfway and then stop and when I open the door the water is setting in the bottom of the dishwasher and does not drain. What is the cause and what needs to be done. I greatly appreciate any help possible. Thank you
