Worn Rear Cover

Last season my rear cover was worn through in the area where the cover inserts into the recessed area of the engine. I realized I had lost a screw to hold the cover tight and figured the vibration caused the cover to touch the rotating part inside the recessed area. I purchased a new cover with screws but the same spot was worn through after one use. Any help would be appreciated.
