Why cant i edit post without it prompting me for my phone number? I don't have service at home and dont want it listed. I cant even get a confirmation code anyways!

My guess is that you're editing a post without a Craigslist account. If so, the phone number is a security measure. (Note that we're an independent help site *not* connected with Craigslist.)

My suggestion is that you open a Craigslist account. You *will* probably have to supply a phone number to open the account—but you can simply provide that of a buddy who'll relay the code to you.
