Hd Box

I currently transferred service and bought an hd tv. When tech came to the apartment to hook up service, he never mentioned that my box was not an hd box. A second tech came out because my service wasn't working, and he didn'tmention it either. Today best buy came to mount the new tv on the wall and mentioned that I needed an hd box. Shouldn't someone have noticed that the box I had was not what I need for my new tv? Is there anadditiona cost to switch out mycurrent box for an hdbox?
