Open the hood on the Chrysler Sebring and secure the hood with the locking bar.
- 2
Inspect the top of the fan shroud for the serpentine-belt routing diagram. The diagram will show you how the new serpentine belt is to be routed around the pulleys. If you can't find the diagram, you will need to draw out the routing direction of the old serpentine belt so that you can properly route the new serpentine belt around each pulley.
- 3
Find the spring loaded, serpentine-belt tensioner on the front of the engine. The tensioner on the Chrysler Sebring model is attached to the front engine block between the alternator and the crankshaft. The tensioner has a pulley on one end that the serpentine belt travels under. The tensioner also has a 13mm bolt in the center of the tensioner pulley.
- 4
Turn the tensioner toward the driver's side (clockwise) of the car with the 3/8-inch drive breaker bar and the 13mm socket to loosen the tension from the belt. Take your other hand and slide the serpentine belt off the tensioner pulley.
- 5
Slide the serpentine belt off the other pulleys and then slide the serpentine belt around the fan and out of the engine compartment.
- 6
Route the new serpentine belt around the fan and onto the crankshaft pulley. Follow the directions on the serpentine belt routing diagram for routing the new serpentine belt around the other pulleys. Be sure to leave the alternator pulley as the last pulley to route the new serpentine belt around.
- 7
Turn the tensioner again with the 3/8-inch drive breaker bar and the 13mm socket so that the new serpentine belt can be put onto the alternator pulley. Slide the new serpentine belt onto the alternator pulley and release the tensioner.
- 8
Look over the belt to make sure that it is routed as directed by the diagram. Then, crank the engine and look over the new serpentine belt as the engine is running to make sure that the new serpentine belt does not come off the pulleys. Let the engine run for about one minute and then turn the engine off. Close the hood.

The spring-loaded tensioner keeps the slack out of the belt and maintains the proper tension on the serpentine belt as it travels around the pulleys.

Wear safety glasses when working inside of the engine compartment.
