Chevrolet shut down its operations in India due to several reasons, including:

- Failure to conquer the Indian market

- Heavy discounts and ramping down of operations

- Financial issues, including bankruptcy

- Decision to retire the Chevrolet brand in India

These factors contributed to General Motors' decision to stop selling Chevrolet cars in India.

Chevrolet ceased its operations in India mainly due to the following reasons:

Low Market Share and Sales: Despite being present in India for over two decades, Chevrolet struggled to establish a strong foothold in the market. Their market share remained consistently low, hovering around 1%. This indicated that their products didn't resonate strongly with Indian consumers.

Intense Competition: The Indian automotive market is extremely competitive, with major global players like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, and Tata commanding significant market shares. Chevrolet failed to offer a compelling value proposition and unique selling points to differentiate themselves.

Product Strategy: Some of Chevrolet's product choices, while well-received elsewhere, didn't suit Indian market preferences. They lagged behind competition in introducing compact SUVs and hatchbacks, which are highly popular segments in India.

High Costs and Losses: Operating in a price-sensitive market, Chevrolet faced challenges in keeping costs low and achieving profitability. Their investments in manufacturing and dealership networks didn't translate into the sales volume necessary to sustain long-term operations.

Focus on Other Markets: General Motors, Chevrolet's parent company, decided to restructure and prioritize markets where they saw greater potential for growth and profitability. This led to the difficult decision of withdrawing from India.

Other Contributing Factors:

Management Issues: Allegedly, General Motors faced internal management challenges and frequent changes in leadership, impacting their India strategy's consistency.

After-Sales Support: There may have been concerns about after-sales support and service network reach compared to established competitors.

Let me know if you'd like more details on any of these reasons!
