Power Steering Locked Up

After receiving a brake fluid low warning light and a stabilizer warning light, we replaced the brakes on our 2010 Chevy Equinox. The lights went off but 20 minutes afterward, on the way home, the power steering warning light came on and the power steering was totally gone. It was VERY hard to manually make a turn. Thank goodness this happened within 2 turns of being home and less than a mile. After the car sat for about 30 minutes, the steering is working normal again. 1)Is this related in any way to the brakes being changed? 2) Is this the beginning of a new problem that will happen again and do we need to take it to the dealership before it does? Most of the time when we have an issue, if its not happening when you take the car in, they tell you they can not find the problem unless its happening while they are inspecting the car. I have read some consumer complaints about their steering locking up without a warning light and causing crashes. Our light didn't come on until we started our turn, so basically no warning. Has a recall been issued for this problem??

I have more experience with older vehicles. On some vehicles the power steering pump also assists the brakes.

As for the lock up, I have had experiences where an air bubble somehow got in the power steering fluid causing it to seem as if the steering wheel locked up. It is usually a 1 time event and never causes any future problems.

I would too of the power steering fluid. Work the same wheel back and forth a few times check the fluid, if the fluid level is very low top it of again and repeat. Until the unit is full.

This works on older vehicles. I hope it helps

Damaged fuse or faulty power steering pump may be cause. I suggest you call for service to detect the main problem
