What Does It Mean When Your Security Light Comes On?

Depends when the light comes on and what happens. Since you are talking about a GM vehicle and not a Ford product, chances are there could be a sensor problem of the lock cylinder or in some after-market wiring repairs. It is a known but not well-acknowledged issue with GM vehicles.
If the light is flickering, it could just be a low battery or battery connection.
But don't ignore the issue because one day this factory imobilizer could cause you not to be able to start your own car or worse yet, malfunction when you are driving.

I also found this information: "With the security light on/flashing, the car will not start. With that light on, the computer is disabling the fuel injector circuit. After a try to start, it wont or dies, leave key on for 10-12 minutes, or until light goes out. Then turn off key for 10 seconds, turn key to 'on' position for 5 seconds, then turn to start and it should. This is a theft re-learn procedure, and will sometimes remedy the situation for the time being, but will have to repair the problem. A scanner should show codes(s) like b2958, b2960"
