Rear Door Lock Repair Process

The two rear door locks are not functioning properly. Driver side rear door lock works only when it is very cool outside and inside the car. Passenger side rear door lock is currently not operating at all but it did work just like the other door lock is currently working. I thought it was the locking mechanism inside the door, so I removed it thinking maybe to clean up and oil. That was a mistake and it turned into a real chalenge!!! Through some reading there has been mention of relays and a thing called a BCM. My question is: Is there a relay? If so, where do I find it? If there is a relay could this be the problem? If there is no relay could it be the BCM? And where is its location?
