Power Chip (surge Brand) Good/bad Idea?

I bought my truck about a month ago and seller already had a brand new Surge powerchip...i have heard mixed opinions from friends/autoparts store clerk, and of course the manufacturer website claims it nothing but a good idea...Anyone specifically familiar with this please let me know...truck is in great condition and i dont want to cause unnecessary damage or start having isdues with it.thanx in advance
