Sometimes dust/dirt or oil sludge can cause a false signal. One way to verify this is to ground the wire terminal and see if the light goes out. On most warning lights the sensor has a single wire lead. Has the engine oil been changed regularly? If not oil sludge build up could also cause a problem. Also some brands of motor oil have a paraffin base(wax) which would cause problems to sensors.Hope this helps.
