Why Does My Car Have Trouble Starting.

I have a 95 monte carlo LS 3.1L engine that I bought about 4 months ago. About two weeks ago the problem started. When I go to start it for the first time for the day it is really hard to start. It cranks and turns over but the engin won't start right away. It take numerous times. At times I can hear a back fire in the engine compartment and sometimes out the exhaust. In my opinion it kind of sounds like it's choking itself out. I could be wrong though. I'm far from a mechanic but am pretty good with most repairs. I'm thinking maybe the catalytic converter is clogged or worn out? It doesn't have a factory exhaust. There a Cherry Bomb Glass pack that was on it when I bought it. Am I even close to what could possibly be wrong? Could someone maybe point me in the right direction please. I'm open to any and all suggestions.

One thing you could try is to clean the Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensor. Chevy 3.1L motors around this year had problems with the MAF getting dirty, often times a dirty sensor would cause the motor to start lean and causing a "hard start" condition while the motor was cold. Clean the little wire in side the MAF housing using an approved MAF cleaner from the parts store. DO NOT wipe or touch the sensor wires with any thing else, doing so could result in damage to the sensor.

If you like the answer,  please accept. Thanks.
