2000 Cadillac Deville Dts Dies When I'm Driving Down The Road.

I am having major problems with my 2000 Cadillac DeVille DTS dying while I am driving down the road.  Sometimes it sort of surges first so I know it is going to die...other times it just dies without any warning.  It is happening more and more often and is becoming dangerous to drive.  Help, please
