Computer Says Engine Is Running Lean.
In the digital display (sometimes, but not always), the temp will fluctuate. For example this last winter it would start off reading like -20. Once it started warming up it would go crazy bouncing from a low number to say around 140 then 80, back up to150, back down to a low number. It would keep doing this till it was completely warm reading 194 degrees. I thought of the thermostat maybe needed to be changed. But a mechanic (shade tree) said he thought I needed a new temp. sending unit? He also said thatif TSU is bad it would make the engine run lean. Any suggestions. Getting bad gas mileage and as much as gas is I would like to fix the problem quickly.
